Susan- that's just it. She *has* to put him first for a change. This can't just be about what she wants, or Clark is ultimately the one that will suffer. She's engaged to another man... what does she want with poor Clark? I've often thought that Lois's occasional selfish moments come from being so alone for so long. She's had to put herself first that whole time, and habits are hard to break. It's something that I love about the show and their relationship; you can see Clark breaking through that wall and showing Lois that it's okay to care and be cared for.

Laura- Perry always reminds me of a bear. Yes, he can bite your head off- but mess with his family and you're in big trouble! Lois, Clark, and Jimmy are basically his kids, or at least that's how he sees them, I think- and lord knows his own son is a bit of a disappointment.
