Could there be a numbers error? It says the "strange tribe" has five people waiting there. We have eight visitors, minus Lc that makes six, and each of them is present in the next scene. Or am I missing something?
I meant to reply to this but then forgot, sorry: Kal is counting 5 Hunters plus 1 woman, plus Lois and Clark. His worldview has narrower gender-roles than ours. Hope that clarifies.
Also, since it's interesting but unlikely to come up organically in the story, Dr. Diggory's body mass is what makes Kal think of him as the leader. In cultures where food is difficult to come by, having extra weight signals that you have extra resources and/or priority in the distribution system; in other words, the same social status that Lex currently enjoys back in the main universe. :3
