What if they decided to make a movie about Superman? Without knowing his secret identity, would they decide to cook up a back-story for him? Would they give him a love interest? Would they make him fight a giant spider? (caution: language) Would Lois and Clark get to participate at all? Or maybe the movie is being made in the distant future of Utopia; a dramatized biography based on what the historians have pieced together about the Man of Steel. Perhaps its a musical? Well? What do you guys think? ^_^

As long as it is nothing like Superman Returns, I'd watch it. If the 'they' you are referring to is Hollywood, they would undoubtedly make Ultra Woman his love interest, and their romance would be about a third of the film. That would be Hollywood's appeal to the female part of the audience. Another third would be about him fighting villains. Since this is, presumably, Hollywood, they would completely ignore 'our' Superman's (i.e., L&C's version of the hero's) basic philosophy toward violence and have him punching out the bad guys at the drop of a hat; Superman would also fight one or more villains who are in planes. That would be Hollywood's attempt to appeal to the male part of the audience. The final third would be a probably-wildly-inaccurate speculation of his back story and how he came to be on earth. If we were lucky, perhaps 5% of the story would accurately reflect the L&C universe's Superman. Joy, Lynn

The interesting thing frome the stand point of the L&C Universe would be that Hollywood would make up some sort of 'secret identity' for Superman because it would make for 'good drama'. Probably some sort of bumbling, meek sort of guy.
But wouldn't that get Lois to thinking?
Tank (who thinks that because of her frequent association with Superman, Hollywood would use a thinly veiled version of Lois as the romantic love interest which would only put Lois in more danger)

Depends on who is directing. Michael Bay would have a movie that is 1/8 incomprehensible plot and 7/8 giant explosions. Actually, mouserocksnerd is writing a story on fanfiction.net about this. L&C get thrown into our universe by Lex Luthor and they find out that there is a new Superman movie in the works. Clark freaks because all the details about him are accurate!

I don't know if you know this, but there was a Superman musical on Broadway already. "It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Superman!" It was made-for-TV movie in 1975 (see clips below) starring Leslie Ann Warren as Lois Lane and was shot over 3 days in Hollywood. It looks horrible. Sorry, but true. Superman - Part 1 (Introduction of cast - people of Metropolis sing to Superman) Superman - part 2 (Lois Lane Sings - so do a bunch of mobsters) Superman Musical link (Superman sings) I apologize for (re)introducing this to you. Please don't shoot the messenger.

Ugh. I couldn't even get through the first clip. I wonder whatever possessed Loretta Swit, who was riding high with M*A*S*H and couldn't have been hard up for either money, to take on this project? It looks like the sort of part only a starving young actor would take -- one desperate for any job on offer. I had seen about a few seconds of the show before, in a tribute film to the various incarnations of Superman. For those few seconds, the show seemed humorous in an extremely campy sort of way (rather like Nimoy\'s Ballad of Bilbo Baggins ), but the clip you linked to made it clear that the Superman musical was just plain awful. Thanks for sharing the links. If nothing else, they relieved my desire of ever watching the musical in toto. Joy, Lynn

Can you imagine what Clark and Lois would think of this awful musical pardody of their lives? What if they were sent to New York to review the play for the Daily Planet? I cringe. Would the playwrite make it out of the theatre alive or would Lois kill him before the end of the first act? I've been thinking about a funny vignette of Perry sending L&C to go see "The Incredibles" because the movie critic was out sick and because he wanted their opinion as new parents and Superman experts. So L&C leave the baby with a babysitter for the first time and go see the movie. Clark freaks and rushes home. He can't sit through the whole movie, especially after seeing what happens with the Incredible baby when left with a babysitter.

I finally remembered the names of a pair of stories I had wanted to mention earlier. Swap Meet: Burbank by Debbie Stark and Swap Meet: Metropolis by Margaret Brignell. The two stories are meant to be read together. The shared portion of their description of them on the archive reads: Lois and Clark find themselves in an alternate universe where they are characters on a television show, played by Teri Hatcher and Dean Cain. Meanwhile, Cain and Hatcher are sent to Metropolis in Lane and Kent's place. Can the foursome solve the mystery of their switch and get back home where they belong? Winner of the 1998 Fanfic Kerth for "Best Crossover," this amazing story is now available on the Fanfic Archive! They are both fun reads. Joy, Lynn

I think that if Superman's around they're going to be VERY careful about what they say about him - he and the Superman Foundation have lawyers in the L&C world, and their job is basically protecting his image (as used for toys, clothes, etc.) to make sure it is only associated with good products to raise money for charity.
They have his historical record to work with - smashing the Nightfall asteroid, the Luthor thing, lots of disasters and thwarted crimes - and things he's said over the years, e.g. that he has a Fortress of Solitude, that Krypton was destroyed, etc. etc.
My guess is that they'd have him living in the Fortress, surrounded by hundreds of TV screens (see e.g. Ozymandias' fortress in Watchmen), possibly having some cute robots to look after the housekeeping, ever vigilant for Truth, Justice, etc., with no social life apart from an occasional visit to Clark to collect his laundry...

Has anyone ever written a story where the 'plot' of this so-called movie is described? L&C could always go and see that at the movies (although I doubt Lois would PAY to see it.) Is there a Superman Foundation in the L&C canon or is it just in the Superman canon? They made a bit of reference to something like what you described at the beginning of S1, but I don't recall them ever mentioning it again. Deadly Chakram: I'll add it to my WIP Queue. (Although that would mean I'd have to rent The Incrediables again. Oh, darn. )

They mentioned a charity marketing thing in one episode, I've always assumed that they did set up some sort of organisation for this though it was never explicitly called the Superman Foundation.
I've belatedly realised that what Clark really needs to worry about isn't official biopics - it's the cheap and nasty porn / exploitation pics that will be made to cash in on it, as with any other blockbuster movie. They would concentrate much more on his private life, sex life etc. since that's cheaper than the special effects you would need for e.g. Nightfall.

Haha. The idea does remind me of one of my stories. It actually started off as a parody sort of thing (because I was actually kind of ticked off about the new Superman movie in the works and certain rumors about it ) but it's kind of evolved from there into something else entirely now... but the basic reactions are there. Lois: WTH? They didn't ask *me* for my opinion? Clark: WTH? They're making a movie about *my* life?! Jimmy: Lois, can I borrow some cash for popcorn?
