“Hey Tom, why aren’t you here? The boss was looking for you.”
“I called in sick. No way am I leaving home today.”
“Why not?”
You know what today is, right? Friday the 13th. You can never be too careful on one of those days; bad things are bound to happen then.”
“That’s just a silly superstition. I’ll bet you a tenner that nothing bad happens.”
“You’re on.”
Tom won the bet. When he went in to work the following Monday, he was fired for missing the mandatory-attendance Employee Appreciation Day that had taken place on Friday.
