Oh, this is so heartbreaking. Poor Clark. He's gone through a lot at such a young age. It might take a while for him to trust Jonathan and Martha enough to open up to them.

It's never too dark to be cool. cool

😭 one of my fav tropes, and as always I LOVE your writing, there’s enough detail so imagine it but it never feels too heavy either. I cannot wait to read more!!

Indeed. 😭 Kids are resilient, but this is a lot. Thanks for reading, and sorry for the long delays.

Just realized I somehow never commented on this chapter? Ah, oops?
Reading this chapter from young Clark's POV is really heart-wrenching. It's obvious his parents are more than a little screwed people. One really wonders why they even adopted him if they are so clearly not willing to give a child the care he needs. It doesn't seem to be for profit reasons either. Hmm...
Clark certainly is not ready to trust Martha and Jonathan yet. Which, I'm not blaming him for. I also get the feel he hasn't interacted much with people not his parents. Thus, he doesn't have a frame yet for what is "normal" nurture, and that the way his parents tought him is less than healthy.
Yeah, how to tell a kid his parents died in a car-crash? That's...hard, there's no good way to do that. Poor JM.
That said...I get a certian feel they won't let him go easily, if even. Clark just hasn't realized yet.
Anyway, up to the next one.

For sure... You've read the next two now, so you know a little more, but yeah... he has NO frame of reference for kindness of any sort πŸ˜₯πŸ˜₯πŸ˜₯

Poor Clark! What he endured is sad and heartbreaking.
He has suffered a lot in his short life. No child deserves to be treated the way he was by his β€œparents.” Clark is in a much better place. Martha and Jonathan are the right parents to heal his heart and shattered spirit. Thanks for a great chapter!
