Well, that's the end of Story 1.

Many thanks to KathyB for her patience with my sporadic efforts to put together a story and her insightful comments that always brought improvement.

There will be a significant wait for Story 2. I've barely started writing, although the plot is in place.

Thanks for the welcome back to the boards. It's been fun!

What a terrific final chapter. It's so great to see them admit their love for each other. And that kiss...

Poor Clark. It must be so hard on him to know that at one point he's got to jump this huge secret on her. I hope the two of them will work something out.

Thanks for a great final chapter! I’m glad Lois and Clark finally admitted their feelings for each other. Those two can make anything happen, including finding their happily ever after.

Their kiss was wow!! If they didn’t have incentive before to make things work, they sure do now! I’m glad it ended on a hopeful, positive note.

I love this story and can’t wait for the sequel. I know you won’t be posting it any time soon but I promise to be patient. Thanks! Good things are worth waiting for!

I loved this! Hopefully the wait is not too long for the next one… one of my favorite authors waited 16 yrs before posting a sequel to one of her stories… Come in under that and I’ll be happy!

The mountains were still there.

Lois was still a city reporter.

He was still a Kansas farmer with a lot of responsibilities.

There are many obstacles ahead. But we know, this duo is more than capable of handling them. I hope the sequel comes soon.

I loved this version of our favorite couple. I had read the first chapter or two when it was first posted. Then waited to read the rest when I saw the final chapter was complete (at least for this story). I hated that I had to work today, as it got in the way of reading and my enjoyment of this story. I'm glad they finally let their feelings for each other show. They've got a lot ahead of them to work out. Hopefully lessons learned on the farm will help them realize they make a great team. That two halves make a whole. I'm definitely down for the sequel, whenever it may be.

Aaand the hay is all in the barn! Applause to all three of them for making it just in time!
Also, we get some steps into, well, lets call it "romantic terrain" finally made by Lois and Clark. Baby steps, that is.
Cause they are right: Lois is (and wants to remain) an investigative big city rpeorter, while Clark is (and wants to reman) a Kansas farmer. Granted, Lois finds farming fascinating and Clark has an interest in journalism...but that doesn't solve things.
Hrm, maybe they can do something like in Aussie Rules with a place share kind of deal? As in, living in SV during main Farming season, and in MEtropolis for the other half of the time? OF course, unlike in AR, Lois doesn't know about Clark's powers this time around (yet) and this Clark is incredible fearful of telling her, so that make sit harder cause that might solve some (albeit not all) of their problems.
Hrm, I'm also curious in how far the fact Jack being Lois' half-brother will influence things there.

All-in-all, I liked this story. It was not one of your best, IMO (there are some where the plot was much more captivating me/the topics were more of my interest), but that doesn't mean it wasn't a nice read. It was neat to read you again here.
I'm still a little unsure what to think about Lois warming up to the world of farming that quickly and completely - though I assume a lot of this has more to do with Clark than th eactual farming stuff, to a good extent. There were also a few somewhat repetitive elements throughout the story, or so I felt (though, I guess some of this is semi-natural given the location, cause that's kinda part of the farm life)

Anyway, I'm looking forward to when you feel ready to share Part II of this work with us. Have a good time!

Absolutely adorable!

You have such skill with showing how embracing the simple things in life can bring joy. This is something that infuses all of your other work, and you've lost none of it during the years you've been busy with things besides writing. Your stories always remind me emotionally to slow down and really pay attention to the things in life that I love. My moms smile when I hug her, how much I enjoy my morning tea, a beautiful turn of phrase in something I'm reading.

These 2 have a lot of challenges still to work through (when don't they? Lol), but they too have found the most important thing in life: connection with each other and others around them.

I'm looking forward to what you have for them next!

I can't believe that this is the last chapter of this part! I'm so invested!

Quote
The clouds had gathered in the western sky as they started the third load.
Oh no! This is so ominous.

Quote
She stepped away from the wall and slid her hands past his ribs to meet behind his back, enclosing him in her embrace. She felt his arms surround her and then tighten.
“We did it,” she breathed.
Too soon, he drew away. “I’m getting you wet,” he said.
“It doesn’t matter.”
Aw, yay!

Quote
Clark’s hay was in the barn.
She’d seen his relief and satisfaction.
And that was worth all the hours of toil.
I feel like this is a set-up for life on the farm for Lois!!

Quote
“You’re a lucky bloke, mate.”
Clark looked up to the loft where Jack’s face was poking through the hole, a big grin on his face.
OMG, YES, please give him some of the Lane sass.

Quote
Clark nodded. “Were you in Smallville in April?”
“Yes,” Jack replied, looking surprised.
Oh, wow. Good work, Clark. Putting those investigative skills to use.

Quote
“There was no ad. He sent you here because he wants me to work at the paper.”
I hate that guy. Interested in more of that backstory, though.

Quote
Jack gave Clark a shove to the chest. “Last one to the house gets the second shower,” he said as he sprinted away.
Aw, I love this. It makes him feel like he'd fit right in with the Lane kids.

Quote
"I’d like to go,” she said. Then she grinned. “I’ll try not to fall asleep.”
“It doesn’t matter if you do,” he said, answering her grin.
So cute!

Quote
Five minutes later, Lois climbed the ladder to the loft, reached the top and laughed. Clark had set up the hay bales to resemble a sofa, complete with another bale to act as a shared footstool. A blanket was covering the ‘seat’, which was embellished with two cushions.
I love that he held onto her desire to sit up here, and then leveled it up for her.

Quote
Because not knowing… it’s tough.”
“So is knowing.”
Their eyes met, and in Clark's, she read his unwavering belief that Jack should be told.
Fascinating that they get to have this debate, because their life experiences are totally aligned to be on opposite sides. Really clever to set this up this way.

Quote
She… or maybe he… leaned forward.
Aw, I love this!

Quote
Full. And rich. And deep.
love

Quote
“The kiss. The concern. The friendship. The more than friendship. You. Me. Us.”
OooooO! And yay - a classic Lois Lane freak out that will make them talk!!

Quote
He waited, not knowing what to say, but sure that if words did escape, they would very likely not help.
rotflol Omg, I'm dying. That's an amazing line.

Quote
“Like you?” His words came out in a gush of breath, causing her to startle. He squared his shoulders. It was time for truth. “Lois, I am in love with you.”
"....you must have known." Sorry, just kidding. I love that you had him just tell her!

Quote
It was time for more truth. “It was too late the day you came.”
“The day I… Aw, Clark.”
Awwwwwwww! Clark! This is so wholly cute.

Quote
“Which leaves me with the choice. Either I give up my dream and my career and the life I had chosen for myself. Or I give up… this.”
The way she said ‘this’ – the softness, the unconcealed affection – tugged at his heart.
Just send her back for a week - I bet she decides to come home, lol. Such a tough choice, though. And I love that you've had her just eliminate the idea of him leaving. It makes her seem just as savvy as Lois Lane should be.

Quote
He enfolded her in his arms. “Lois,” he said. “We will find a way. We will work out something.”
He's one of the rare characters I usually believe this from, and I totally believe it from your version of him.

Quote
The mountains were still there.
Love this phrasing/analogy you're drawing.

Quote
He wasn’t human.
Even though I know this will all work out, this felt like such a gut punch.

Quote
And the mountains receded again.
Ugh - so good!

Loved this story from start to finish. It has such a natural flow, and such a sweet nature to it. And I really love learning about the details of the day-to-day farm life in a way that it seems like Lois does. I'm excited to see where this goes! I'll keep an eye out for the next part!

Hi Corrina!
Quote
As they drove back to the field for the seventh load, Lois asked Clark how many more he estimated were left.
They did manage a lot!

Quote
Clark jumped down from the tray and turned to Lois. She stepped away from the wall and slid her hands past his ribs to meet behind his back, enclosing him in her embrace. She felt his arms surround her and then tighten.
Awwww look who’s touchy feely when she’s happy clap

Quote
“Go to the house and have a shower. Jack and I will finish up here and be over soon.”
I wonder if Clark has a special talent when it comes to salt-based bale drying.

Quote
“You’re a lucky bloke, mate.”
CLARK: confused
JACK: oh, just friends? That mean I got a shot?
CLARK: Nooooooo! You would feel like kissing your sister.

Quote
”I’d like to go,” she said. Then she grinned. “I’ll try not to fall asleep.”
Doesn’t want to sleep with Clark in the hay?

Quote
“It doesn’t matter if you do,” he said, answering her grin.
See above. Sounds like Clark would like that.

Quote
. The decision didn’t have to be made now. She smiled suddenly. “My shoulders are awfully sore.”

Smiling too, he gestured for her to turn around.
smile1 love

Quote
She came down easily and jumped to the ground, turning towards him.

And almost into his raised arms.

She stopped. He stopped.

She smiled. He smiled.

She… or maybe he… leaned forward.

And suddenly, they were kissing.
hyper

Also, it’s late. It’s time for Clark to take Lois to bed. (Sorry, my English no good.)

Quote
Not light. Not quick. Not meaningless.

Full. And rich. And deep.

As the dam broke inside him, Clark’s arms surrounded her and enclosed her against his body.
Then again, they might agree with above sentiment.

Quote
And then, she lurched away, turning from him.
Oh no, she woke up!

Quote
“What have we done?” she breathed.
Nothing. Yet.

Quote
She stopped a foot away and said, “This wasn’t supposed to happen.”
No, she did not plan on kissing the farm worker. The writer did.
LOIS: But..I am a writer!

Quote
“The kiss. The concern. The friendship. The more than friendship. You. Me. Us.”
On the plus side, she’ll be pacing in Perry’s office by day after tomorrow if we follow the lucky Leon timeline.

Quote
“Did you plan this?” she asked.
Yes, the entire village is in on it.

Quote
So you like me? In that way?”
Let’s just hope he never kissed Bess.

Quote
It was time for truth. “Lois, I am in love with you.”
Fascinating. I never knew a human could leave behind a cloud of dust outside of comics.

Quote
It’s awful,” she said. “I’m a city reporter. You’re a Kansas farmer.”
Yes but they have mystery in farmland, too!

Quote
“Which leaves me with the choice. Either I give up my dream and my career and the life I had chosen for myself. Or I give up… this.”
Poor dear!

Quote
. “The two things I’ve always wanted – someone amazing to share my life and to be the best reporter in the United States. I always hoped I could have both.”
She could report on weather and crops. It’s important work!

Quote
He enfolded her in his arms. “Lois,” he said. “We will find a way. We will work out something.”
He could still commute. Most of Lois’s more…interesting work happens at night anyway.
LOIS: Just like Cat’s.

Quote
“Good. I think we should enjoy being together tomorrow. And the day after that if you’re still here. And the day after that.”
/Cocks eyebrow/

Quote
I fell in love with you, too.”
Awwwwww

Quote
He couldn’t even imagine that conversation. He could – far too easily – imagine the fallout.

Losing Lois.

Seeing her shock.

Experiencing her rejection.
Oh boy.

Quote
She was a reporter. Who would have an earth-shattering story –
Yes but ‘I dated an alien’ is not Page One but rather Cat’s Corner.
NUNK: It’s page one in the Whisper.

Quote
“I love you, Clark,” she said. “That’s a great start.”

“The best,” he murmured.

Then, he kissed her.

And the mountains receded again.
shock oh, *that’s* how you planned on resolving this sticky situation wildguy

Quote
Well, that’s the end of Story 1.
thud

Quote
There will be a significant wait for Story 2. I’ve barely started writing, although the plot is in place.
/Carefully lays out morsels of FDK to entice author/

Also, we’d keep the lights on regardless of this cliffhanger! No need for torture wink

What a wonderfully sweet tale. Yes, it was free of drama and a-plot, but then again every one of your works is a new endeavor! No go and use the warm season to get inspired for the conclusion hyper
