I just read chapters 5-7 and I’m finally caught up. Of course, I was teary eyed. My heart breaks for sweet Clark. Martha and Jonathan are the best! Clark is making a little progress and his helping Martha make chocolate chip cookies was precious. He needs to hear how he’s a big help many times. I’m looking forward to the next chapter! Thank you very much!

I could've sworn I commented but apparently??? not??? outrageous!

I love to see him gaining some confidence, little by little, finding out that maybe he's not so useless or stupid. He's gonna be a little baking prodigy I can just tell. Interweaving this with the flashback-dialogue is such a good contrast.

you absolutely nail the rhythm of anxious-child speech, the little “S-so we shouldn’t—we shouldn’t—we shouldn’t—”
and “I…get to…have one?”, I can *hear* it coming out in that upset unsure way.
