Those early-opening warnings are hysterical. Yes, I pulled a Lois and read through all of them. I had only planned to read one, just out of curiosity. And then I read the second one to see if it was the same as the first. And when I found out it was different but just as funny, well... My excuse is that I wanted to make sure to read them all before they were replaced. Yeah, that's it... That's my story and I'm sticking to it.  What a wonderful idea. I am looking forward to reading the stories as they come out. Joy, Lynn

The do not open early spoiler spaces were so funny. Thank you for doing this. I've considered doing this as well, but never got around to actually starting an advent calendar. So glad you're doing this.
And not on to story #1: I can totally see Clark doing this for their first non-catastrophic Christmas as a married couple. Had to look up the Weihnachtsgurke, though. Really not s tradition I have heard of around her. But it's so funny that even Clark has to use German recipes for some decent Christmas cookies.
Vanillekipferl are a great idea. Maybe I have to try my hand on some of these as well. Or Lebkuchen. Mmhhh!

Hi Kathryn! December 1st: Oh, how utterly predictable! Rushing to open the first door? Tempus is enjoying your lack of restraint. Try again when the time is right. Most adorable! I *did* leave the chocolate in there. Iâm not like Lois, when she sees the advent calendar at Clarkâs place. Lois shuffled into the living room. Sheâd fallen asleep, waiting for Clark to come home. But when she woke up his side was empty and cold. Why would Season One Lois share a bed with Clark  Whatâs going on? It wasnât the first time sheâd woken up alone and she usually didnât mind. But today, she felt an ache she couldnât shake, a wish that heâd been there when she opened her eyes. Oh boy. Sheâs woken up alone a lot before she met Clark and it never was an issue. Now it is. Sheâs fallen hard for her one night stand. Hmm⌠I wonder if maybe Kathryn is intending this to be a completely different setup? Nah. She stopped short when her eyes landed on the small table by the window. Something hadnât been there yesterday: a basket filled with numbered bags, each intricately painted with festive scenes. AwwwâŚhe left Lois 24 mysteries to discover. LOIS: Yikes, heâs left me 24 secrets I wonât uncover for the better part of a month!  Clark emerged from the kitchen, with two cups of coffee, pausing as his eyes settled on her. AwwâŚhe didnât leave. He just went to make breakfast  Clark crossed the room, his excitement evident. âItâs an Advent calendar. I thought we could start a little tradition this year.â You mean instead of Lois getting hidden in 24 different places in the weeks leading up to Christmas and Clark needing to save her, they just make little baggies filled with surprises? LOIS: Chocolate. TEMPUS: Kryptonite. Lois sighed, sinking onto the couch. âClark, you know Iâm not exactly Mrs. Christmas Spirit. Why bother?â Yes, that was her mother. She loved all the Christmas spirits. Pulling it open, she retrieved a small green ornament shaped like a cucumber. AwwâŚClark gave her a little Kryptonite amulet she can use to be the one who is in control!  Itâs called the Weihnachtsgurke . Itâs hidden in the tree and whoever finds it first gets to open the first present.â Ah, somewhere I heard of this before. Lois sighed. âAnd todayâs surprise is a cucumber.â I *told* you, go with chocolate. Lois groaned. âYou know Iâm a kitchen disaster, right? Remember that time I tried to make brownies and almost burned down my apartment?â Hey! Brownies are made with chocolate. I thought she knows how to work with chocolate? That drew a reluctant laugh from her. âFine, but if this goes south, youâre cleaning up the mess.â LNN ANCHOR: And in a freak gas explosion that left the entire neighborhood covered in chocolate dough⌠Lois stood by the stove, eyeing the last batch of cookies, reaching for a Vanillekipferl. As she took a cautious bite Clark glanced up. âCareful, those are still warm.â Also, they need to rest a couple of days. Same as the dough before. Also, now Lois will need to exercise quite a bit more She took another bite, savoring the delicate almond flavor and buttery texture. âNot bad for someone who doesnât usually bake. Iâd even say⌠edible.â  Loisâs smirk softened into a smile as she looked at the spread. âThat depends,â she teased, âare you on Santaâs âniceâ list?â Do you mean he will have to make Mrs. Santa happy? Lois tilted her head to look at him, her smirk fading into a warm smile. âI guess I could get used to this⌠but donât push your luck, farm-boy.â /squints at rest of calendar/ His eyes twinkled as he kissed her forehead. âOne day at a time.â Awwww Very sweet idea, this whole setup! Lynn S. M. Those early-opening warnings are hysterical. I'll put the spoiler warnings in this thread, so everyone can read them again if they want. I put them in in case anyone would be peeking. When I was trying to figure out how to create the calender I realized that using spoilers would be perfect, though I couldn't be sure that everyone just read one story, as I intended. Those warnings are there to make sure everyone has something to enjoy until the time is right. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.  BlindPassengerIf the story is half as fun as these, count me in for the ride! I tried to keep a mostly light and fun tone with the stories, I hope you'll like them. 90stvfangirl  You can open the first door now. bakasi I've considered doing this as well, but never got around to actually starting an advent calendar. I have wanted to do this for years but never got around to doing it, but this year I had the right ideas, I've had barely enough time to put everything togeher so I can't guarantee that there won't be mistakes in spelling/grammar/flow of the stories or with the traditions I used. I only know about the "Weihnachtsgurke" from a friend who went to college in Wßrzburg, it seems to be more common in that area. As far as I know it is not a very well-known tradition, I think it is fun and can recommend it - as long as you don't have someone with superpowered vision in your family. If anyone is interested I have posted recipe's for the "Plätzchen" I mentioned in the Discord (with american ingredients and measurements).

What a wonderful start to the Advent calendar. This story was not only entertaining, it was also educational. The pickle-hunt reminds me a little of the hunt for the afikomen during the Passover Seder. Now I am hoping that each day will reveal a holiday tradition in a different part of the world. In the meantime, the transformation of Eeyore/Scrooge Lois into someone who at least somewhat appreciates this time of year is a minor miracle in and of itself. I guess it really was a job for Superman Clark. Like Lois, I am eager to open up tomorrow's goody. Thank you for this series.

I love #2! Itâs sweet and melts my heart. The Ukrainian story about the spiders decorating the tree is lovely. Youâre nailing the conversations between Lois and Clark! I canât wait for tomorrowâs fic! Thank you! This series was a great idea and a lot of fun!

Okay, are you just pulling a Yoda or are you trying to exasperate Lois. The next morning, Lois awoke to find Clark still lying beside her. Oh, itâs a serialized experience in the telling of tales! âGood morning,â he murmured, his voice rich and warm. He pulled her close, wrapping her in the kind of embrace that made her feel like nothing else in the world mattered.
Lois smiled against his chest, her thoughts drifting back to the previous evening. Clarkâs advent idea had been just what she needed. Yes, they have advent calendars with all kinds of themes these days. This morning, though, she was grateful for the simple gift of waking up with him still by her side. Awww, he did not turn into a pumkin again Later - after lingering far longer than they should have in the warmth of each otherâs arms - they scrambled to get ready for work. Letâs hope they did not need to take a shower after -- Together, that is â or theyâd end up being even later. Lois eyed the spider skeptically but allowed herself to be intrigued. âYouâve got my attention. Whatâs the deal with the creepy-crawly?â Clark grinned as he started with his own bowl. âYou married me for my cooking skills, obviously.â Yes, she married him because he keeps her alive. âThough I seem to recall you advertising other talents - flying, lifting heavy things, cleaning the house at superspeed...â Not doing *other* things at superspeed. âTrue,â Clark replied, his grin widening. âBut most of those donât really help in the kitchen.â The fridge is heavy and the kitchen was a mess last night. After work, I thought we could do something inspired by todayâs story.â
Lois raised an eyebrow. âLet me guess - spinning webs?â *During* work they could investigate some old, abandoned buildings, the attics are said to be full of spider webs. Lois lingered by the Christmas tree, her eyes on the spider web decorations now draped across the branches. They shimmered in the soft light.
âYou know,â she said quietly, âthereâs something comforting about this story. Itâs like⌠no matter how hopeless things feel, thereâs always a chance for something beautiful to surprise you.â Awwww Together, they stood in the glow of the tree, the spiderwebs shimmering like spun gold. And for the first time, Lois felt the stirrings of a quieter, simpler kind of Christmas magic, one that reminded her of the joy found in unexpected places. I thought she knows how to work with chocolate? There are more than four things you can cook and bake with chocolate, Lois can only do four dishes, three with chocolate. Let's assume that Clark had already prepared the dough for them... also - Lois just did a taste test... she needed to find out if they were edible. Do you mean he will have to make Mrs. Santa happy? He needs to make Lois happy, otherwise that makes him unhappy - and that makes his parents unhappy... /squints at rest of calendar/ We have a lot of interesting places to visit and a lot of lovely traditions to try. Very sweet idea, this whole setup! Aww thanks. Lynn S. M. I didn't know about the hunt for the afikomen, but l'll look that up, thanks for the link. I tried to find traditions from all over the world and also tried to find things that are unique to that area, that didn't always work but I think it works this way (you'll see) the early parts are mostly europe but then it varies. I changed several countries out for something else, for example I swaped out Japan and Palau. In case anyone wants to do another calendar next year :-D Songbird Aww, thanks. I can recommend the Weihnachtsgurke, especially with kids. It's always fun for us.
