FDK goes here and the story is here

The spoiler warnings 😁
1. Oh, how utterly predictable! Rushing to open the first door? Tempus is enjoying your lack of restraint. Try again when the time is right.
2. Clark might be faster than a speeding bullet, but you’re a little too fast with today’s door. Patience, fellow FoLC!
3. Careful! If you peek early, Perry White will assign you to cover dog shows faster than you could say ‘great shades of Elvis’!
4. Trying to scoop this door early? Lois, Clark says patience is a virtue (and so does Santa)!

Those early-opening warnings are hysterical. Yes, I pulled a Lois and read through all of them. I had only planned to read one, just out of curiosity. And then I read the second one to see if it was the same as the first. And when I found out it was different but just as funny, well... My excuse is that I wanted to make sure to read them all before they were replaced. Yeah, that's it... That's my story and I'm sticking to it. wink

What a wonderful idea. I am looking forward to reading the stories as they come out.

Joy,
Lynn

What Lynn said, basically. Just been curious and then...well...Oops?
If the story is half as fun as these, count me in for the ride!

The do not open early spoiler spaces were so funny. Thank you for doing this. I've considered doing this as well, but never got around to actually starting an advent calendar. So glad you're doing this.

And not on to story #1: I can totally see Clark doing this for their first non-catastrophic Christmas as a married couple. Had to look up the Weihnachtsgurke, though. Really not s tradition I have heard of around her. But it's so funny that even Clark has to use German recipes for some decent Christmas cookies.

Vanillekipferl are a great idea. Maybe I have to try my hand on some of these as well. Or Lebkuchen. Mmhhh!

Hi Kathryn!
December 1st:

Quote
Oh, how utterly predictable! Rushing to open the first door? Tempus is enjoying your lack of restraint. Try again when the time is right.
Most adorable! I *did* leave the chocolate in there. I’m not like Lois, when she sees the advent calendar at Clark’s place.

Quote
Lois shuffled into the living room. She’d fallen asleep, waiting for Clark to come home. But when she woke up his side was empty and cold.
Why would Season One Lois share a bed with Clark confused What’s going on?

Quote
It wasn’t the first time she’d woken up alone and she usually didn’t mind. But today, she felt an ache she couldn’t shake, a wish that he’d been there when she opened her eyes.
Oh boy. She’s woken up alone a lot before she met Clark and it never was an issue. Now it is. She’s fallen hard for her one night stand.

Hmm… I wonder if maybe Kathryn is intending this to be a completely different setup? Nah.

Quote
She stopped short when her eyes landed on the small table by the window. Something hadn’t been there yesterday: a basket filled with numbered bags, each intricately painted with festive scenes.
Awww…he left Lois 24 mysteries to discover.
LOIS: Yikes, he’s left me 24 secrets I won’t uncover for the better part of a month! help

Quote
Clark emerged from the kitchen, with two cups of coffee, pausing as his eyes settled on her.
Aww…he didn’t leave. He just went to make breakfast clap

Quote
Clark crossed the room, his excitement evident. “It’s an Advent calendar. I thought we could start a little tradition this year.”
You mean instead of Lois getting hidden in 24 different places in the weeks leading up to Christmas and Clark needing to save her, they just make little baggies filled with surprises?
LOIS: Chocolate.
TEMPUS: Kryptonite.

Quote
Lois sighed, sinking onto the couch. “Clark, you know I’m not exactly Mrs. Christmas Spirit. Why bother?”
Yes, that was her mother. She loved all the Christmas spirits.

Quote
Pulling it open, she retrieved a small green ornament shaped like a cucumber.
Aww…Clark gave her a little Kryptonite amulet she can use to be the one who is in control! peep

Quote
It’s called the Weihnachtsgurke . It’s hidden in the tree and whoever finds it first gets to open the first present.”
Ah, somewhere I heard of this before.

Quote
Lois sighed. “And today’s surprise is a cucumber.”
I *told* you, go with chocolate.

Quote
Lois groaned. “You know I’m a kitchen disaster, right? Remember that time I tried to make brownies and almost burned down my apartment?”
Hey! Brownies are made with chocolate. I thought she knows how to work with chocolate?

Quote
That drew a reluctant laugh from her. “Fine, but if this goes south, you’re cleaning up the mess.”
LNN ANCHOR: And in a freak gas explosion that left the entire neighborhood covered in chocolate dough…

Quote
Lois stood by the stove, eyeing the last batch of cookies, reaching for a Vanillekipferl. As she took a cautious bite Clark glanced up. “Careful, those are still warm.”
Also, they need to rest a couple of days. Same as the dough before. Also, now Lois will need to exercise quite a bit more peep

Quote
She took another bite, savoring the delicate almond flavor and buttery texture. “Not bad for someone who doesn’t usually bake. I’d even say… edible.”
laugh

Quote
Lois’s smirk softened into a smile as she looked at the spread. “That depends,” she teased, “are you on Santa’s ‘nice’ list?”
Do you mean he will have to make Mrs. Santa happy?

Quote
Lois tilted her head to look at him, her smirk fading into a warm smile. “I guess I could get used to this… but don’t push your luck, farm-boy.”
/squints at rest of calendar/

Quote
His eyes twinkled as he kissed her forehead. “One day at a time.”
Awwww clap

Very sweet idea, this whole setup!

Those early-opening warnings are hysterical.

I'll put the spoiler warnings in this thread, so everyone can read them again if they want. I put them in in case anyone would be peeking.
When I was trying to figure out how to create the calender I realized that using spoilers would be perfect, though I couldn't be sure that everyone just read one story, as I intended. Those warnings are there to make sure everyone has something to enjoy until the time is right.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I have wanted to do this for years but never got around to doing it, but this year I had the right ideas, I've had barely enough time to put everything togeher so I can't guarantee that there won't be mistakes in spelling/grammar/flow of the stories or with the traditions I used.

I only know about the "Weihnachtsgurke" from a friend who went to college in WĂźrzburg, it seems to be more common in that area. As far as I know it is not a very well-known tradition, I think it is fun and can recommend it - as long as you don't have someone with superpowered vision in your family.

If anyone is interested I have posted recipe's for the "Plätzchen" I mentioned in the Discord (with american ingredients and measurements).

What a wonderful start to the Advent calendar. This story was not only entertaining, it was also educational. The pickle-hunt reminds me a little of the hunt for the afikomen during the Passover Seder. Now I am hoping that each day will reveal a holiday tradition in a different part of the world.

In the meantime, the transformation of Eeyore/Scrooge Lois into someone who at least somewhat appreciates this time of year is a minor miracle in and of itself. I guess it really was a job for Superman Clark.

Like Lois, I am eager to open up tomorrow's goody.

Thank you for this series.

I love #2! It’s sweet and melts my heart. The Ukrainian story about the spiders decorating the tree is lovely. You’re nailing the conversations between Lois and Clark! I can’t wait for tomorrow’s fic! Thank you! This series was a great idea and a lot of fun!

Brava.

Part two left me with as much of a warm fuzzy feeling as I would have if I were wrapped in one of Martha's scarves.

I am thoroughly enjoying learning about these different customs (even when they involve spiders not named Charlotte).

Hi Kathryn!

December 2nd

Quote
Clark might be faster than a speeding bullet, but you’re a little too fast with today’s door. Patience, fellow FoLC!
Okay, are you just pulling a Yoda or are you trying to exasperate Lois.

Quote
The next morning, Lois awoke to find Clark still lying beside her.
Oh, it’s a serialized experience in the telling of tales! clap

Quote
“Good morning,” he murmured, his voice rich and warm. He pulled her close, wrapping her in the kind of embrace that made her feel like nothing else in the world mattered.

Lois smiled against his chest, her thoughts drifting back to the previous evening. Clark’s advent idea had been just what she needed.
Yes, they have advent calendars with all kinds of themes these days.

Quote
This morning, though, she was grateful for the simple gift of waking up with him still by her side.
Awww, he did not turn into a pumkin again clap

Quote
Later - after lingering far longer than they should have in the warmth of each other’s arms - they scrambled to get ready for work.
Let’s hope they did not need to take a shower after -- Together, that is – or they’d end up being even later.

Quote
Lois eyed the spider skeptically but allowed herself to be intrigued. “You’ve got my attention. What’s the deal with the creepy-crawly?”
clap

Quote
Clark grinned as he started with his own bowl. “You married me for my cooking skills, obviously.”
Yes, she married him because he keeps her alive.

Quote
“Though I seem to recall you advertising other talents - flying, lifting heavy things, cleaning the house at superspeed...”
Not doing *other* things at superspeed.

Quote
“True,” Clark replied, his grin widening. “But most of those don’t really help in the kitchen.”
The fridge is heavy and the kitchen was a mess last night.

Quote
After work, I thought we could do something inspired by today’s story.”

Lois raised an eyebrow. “Let me guess - spinning webs?”
*During* work they could investigate some old, abandoned buildings, the attics are said to be full of spider webs.

Quote
Lois lingered by the Christmas tree, her eyes on the spider web decorations now draped across the branches. They shimmered in the soft light.

“You know,” she said quietly, “there’s something comforting about this story. It’s like… no matter how hopeless things feel, there’s always a chance for something beautiful to surprise you.”
Awwww

Quote
Together, they stood in the glow of the tree, the spiderwebs shimmering like spun gold. And for the first time, Lois felt the stirrings of a quieter, simpler kind of Christmas magic, one that reminded her of the joy found in unexpected places.
Beautifully woven tale tonight clap And just the right bit of melancholy clap

#3 I love the cozy atmosphere you're creating here. How Lois automatically comforts Clark after his return from the snow storm, their snowball fight. Thank you so much for sharing

#3 The snowball fight and being with Lois is just what Clark needed. The tradition and sentiment behind the bird ornament is beautiful! I love this story and series! Thank you! I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s treat!

There's chocolate? I have to go back and look... but maybe Tempus left it there... Did the chocolate have a strange green hue to it?

Quote
Why would Season One Lois share a bed with Clark What’s going on?
Well, if she'd did that the series would have taken a completely different direction, I think.

Quote
Aww…Clark gave her a little Kryptonite amulet she can use to be the one who is in control!
A cucumber shaped piece of kryptonite? Fashion in the 90s was strange!

Quote
I *told* you, go with chocolate.
With Lois - always go with chocolate.

Quote
Hey! Brownies are made with chocolate. I thought she knows how to work with chocolate?
There are more than four things you can cook and bake with chocolate, Lois can only do four dishes, three with chocolate. Maybe the brownies were one of the things she couldn't do with chocolate :p

Quote
LNN ANCHOR: And in a freak gas explosion that left the entire neighborhood covered in chocolate dough…
... it is a good thing Superman was nearby to clean up the mess.

Quote
Also, they need to rest a couple of days. Same as the dough before. Also, now Lois will need to exercise quite a bit more
I know that the cookies and the dough need to rest but that wouldn't have worked for the story... Let's assume that Clark had already prepared the dough for them... also - Lois just did a taste test... she needed to find out if they were edible.

Quote
Do you mean he will have to make Mrs. Santa happy?
He needs to make Lois happy, otherwise that makes him unhappy - and that makes his parents unhappy...

Quote
/squints at rest of calendar/
We have a lot of interesting places to visit and a lot of lovely traditions to try.

Quote
Very sweet idea, this whole setup!
Aww thanks.

Lynn S. M.
I didn't know about the hunt for the afikomen, but l'll look that up, thanks for the link. I tried to find traditions from all over the world and also tried to find things that are unique to that area, that didn't always work but I think it works this way (you'll see) the early parts are mostly europe but then it varies. I changed several countries out for something else, for example I swaped out Japan and Palau. In case anyone wants to do another calendar next year :-D

Songbird
Aww, thanks. I can recommend the Weihnachtsgurke, especially with kids. It's always fun for us.

Story #2
bakasi & Songbird
I loved the story with the spiders, it is so different to the other traditions I found. I had never heard about that before.

Lynn S. M.
Thank you so much, this series is mostly warm fuzzy feelings - I just hope no one goes into sugar shock during this month...

Know what you mean, I do not. Both, it might be.

Quote
Yes, they have advent calendars with all kinds of themes these days.
Yeah I heard of that, too. Maybe next year someone will write a series of ficlets using one of those as inspiration...

Quote
Awww, he did not turn into a pumkin again
Phew... fortunately this is not a fairy tale.

Quote
Let’s hope they did not need to take a shower after -- Together, that is – or they’d end up being even later.
I'll leave that up to your imagination...

Quote
Yes, she married him because he keeps her alive.
I second that, in more than one way.

Quote
Not doing *other* things at superspeed.
Can you clarify... laugh

Quote
Beautifully woven tale tonight And just the right bit of melancholy
Great, that's exactly what I was going for.

Thanks everyone for reading and taking your time to reply.
