Dearest introverted FoLCS,
There are so many of you out there that regularly come here, but we donât hear your voices. We see the number of âviewsâ on each posted story tick higher and higher, and we know youâre out there. And weâre grateful that youâre reading!
I just wanted to reach out to all of the lurkers who are on the shy side, but might want to get a little more involved in the Kerths (even just this once)!
We usually have little introductions for each award category during the ceremony. FoLCs will traditionally present their own intros, but I wanted to offer another option this year! If youâd like to make one of these intros, but ALSO want to stay in the comfy lurker shadows, you can do it anonymously. You donât have to show up on the day. You donât have to put your name on it. You donât have to be an amazing writer or stick to any specific structure. Some intros are long, some very short, some silly, some straightforward â so thereâs room for whatever youâve got.
Not sure where to start? Iâll add a couple of examples from last year below, along with this yearâs eligible category list. And Iâll happily beta anything you send in. You donât have to be a seasoned writer. English doesnât need to be your first language. Grammar doesnât have to be perfect.
If you want to send a little love to the authors you read (quietly, anonymously, however youâre comfortable), just send me the category youâd like to pick. Iâm a RL introvert, too, so I wonât haunt you for more socializing. But I will make sure your intro gets into the ceremony, gets a grammar check, and stays anonymous. You can DM me here, or e-mail me directly at evie.L.jade@gmail.com.
Example 1 - A short one!
The stories in the micro-short category are⌠well⌠short. So short they may be less than certain authorâs notes.
Without further ado, the nominees are: (Iâll add in the nominees for you!)
Example 2 - A straight-forward one!
Clark trying to get advice on dealing with an angry girlfriend, the chatroom of Superheroes, Superman in a dating show, Clarkâs identity struggles a la Dr. Seuss and his favorite nosy reporter getting Clark to fess up on his secret - these stories among others made us laugh this year.
Nominated as Best Comedy Story are: (Iâll add in the nominees for you!)
Example 3 - A silly one!
(This was a parody/homage of a QueenofCapes story.)

JadedE> Jimmy, this doesn't look like a Discord channel.
SuperGopher> Uh, yeah. I mighta taken a wrong turn at that last firewall...
JadedE> Jimmy!
SuperGopher> Yeesh, sorry! Just a sec, I can fix it!
JadedE> We're supposed to be hacking into the Stage channel at the Kerth's, not into some kind of... Where even are we?
SuperGopher> I'm working it out now. It's pretty cool! I think we're... uh-oh...
JadedE> What do you mean 'uh-oh?'
Batmin> This is not a chatroom.
#SuperGopher has been kicked from this channel.
JadedE> Wait!
Batmin> [*****]
JadedE> Look, I'm not trying to abuse the chat feature or share any memes. I'm just looking for the Kerths! I have to drop off this presentation before they get to the Best Challenge Response, and my other attempts have been kinda shaky, so I have to make sure that this one gets there! Can you help get me onto their server?
Batmin> [*****]
SuperGF> I can help!
JadedE> Oh, that would be amazing!
Batmin> [*****!]
#Batmin has been kicked from the channel
SuperGF> No problem. Girls gotta stick together.

JadedE> Thank you!
#User JadedE has succesfully joined the #kerth-ceremony
The Challenge Response stories hold a special place in the heart of the FoLC community because, like our altruistic hero, these stories are inspired by someone else's need -- the need for a fantastic fic! It takes a special writer to take up the challenge and give life to an idea based on special request! They often range from poignant and heart-felt to zany, silly and brilliant, and this year's entries run the gamut.
The nominees for Best Challenge Response are: (Iâll add in the nominees for you!)
And here are the categories to choose from:
Best Mid-Length or Long Story (51-200kb or 201+kb)
Best Challenge Response
Best Overall Story
Now, if you really get zero joy out of writing (which is totally valid), donât forget that weâre looking for a graphic artist to help with the awards banners this year. Itâs fun and silly and beloved by the nominees and winners, because itâs an extra little thing just to make them feel special. If youâre interested in that, you can
head here to read more about that. And if any kind of creating is just too much, instead, maybe pop into voting this year if you usually don't. If youâve read just one fic â and liked it â you can vote for it! You donât have to fill out the whole thing or know every story. Just click that one (or two, or even three) that you came to the boards to keep reading (or to read again and again). Every author here writes for the love of it, but also for just that little spark of connection in the dark void of the internet that someone else has read it, that someone has loved their character characters, too, and that maybe even loves this fandom the same way that they do. So send them a little vote of anonymous love (because voting is anonymous! And it takes about 30 seconds to search out a story and click for it).
Hope to hear from at least one lurker out there â you are such an important part of this fandom!
Evie
