As for Clark... who cares, he's the boring one. Maybe a nice wham where he really takes a hit of that kryptonite might get the gentle readers blood pressure going.
As for Lois... she definitely has to get herself in trouble. Some kind of wham that will hinder her ability to find Clark and thus make her worry that much more about him, all the while having to worry about keeping herself alive.
Let Jimmy take the 'samples' back for investigation while Lois sneaks on board the ship and 'gets into trouble'.
Wouldn't it be funny if Lois had to hide out on the ship and couldn't get off before it left port. Poor Lois, on her way out to sea while her beloved is 'lost' and possibly hurt somewhere.
