Question 2 was a tough one! I ultimately checked "Probably not" as for whether I'd write if no one were around to read it.
I need to qualify that, though, by saying that I don't think I'd write the story down on *paper/screen* if I weren't going to share it with anyone else. But I would continue to write in my head -- that's something I've been doing since I was a kid, well before I knew that there was any such thing as "fanfic". I can take the situations and the dialogue and play with them all I want inside my head ... but I think the only reason I take the time to physically write it up is so I can share it with other people.
