He hadn’t answered her accusation. He’d just kept flying, his face averted from hers, his expression impassive. And it was pretty damn obvious what his intention was. He was taking her home. He’d bring her back to her apartment, set her down, bid her goodnight and fly away. He’d made up his mind about her and he had no intention of revising it.
Maybe, now, she could understand how he did it.

Ooh... lots more than he's said before. And... are you ready? Babble time. <g> This really says something... Clark's probably still upset and angry, still would rather not have Lois know anything more about Superman so he can better prove his point (not to mention it's safer to guard his heart that way), but this... His irritation with her kind of bleeds away just a bit for this because it still really bothers him. It's still raw, though well-buried. And... it's just really sweet that he doesn't hesitate to share this with Lois even when he's so angry with her.
Homeless, too, until he’d come to Earth. Where had he been all those years? Drifting around in space? How long had it been, anyway? How old was he now? In human appearance, he looked to be something between twenty-five and thirty, but that was meaningless. Who knew how Kryptonians aged? He could be the equivalent of a thousand years old - or he could be around ten.
Put that way... there was a lot she didn’t know about him.

This was going from bad to worse. Any moment now, she was going to tell him how well she understood him again. That she knew how lonely he was. That she knew he needed comfort...

And he's hating it because he wants nothing more than to accept it.
He turned away. “Lois, I thought you had something important you wanted to talk about. Unless you do, then I’m going to take you home. I don’t have all night.”
He needs a cardiac band-aid.
Now, even if it killed him, he had to convince her that she didn’t love him. Even if it made her hate him in the process... even as part of him was starting to hate her.

She couldn’t see what was right under her nose. Swore up and down that she loved Superman, would love him if he were an ordinary man, yet rejected that ordinary man outright when he laid his heart at her feet.
You know I love this.
And... I just love the connotation of "swore up and down".
He spun around to face her. “Yes, I think you’re shallow.”
*GASP* (<-- Did that out loud too) But well deserved!!!! Have I mentioned before that I love angry Clark? Adore him, really. It's... I think it's his most powerful emotion. Yes, his love and compassion and everything else is almost unfathomable on the grand scale of things, but his anger... that's something he keeps a very tight rein on. Not just because a Superman with a bad temper would be dangerous, but because that's who Clark is. Intrinsically good, respectful, etc. So this makes his anger more emotionally driven than most, not impulsive at all. Clark has to be really hurting on a deep level, so much that he can't keep a hold of that control he always has over it, and it slips. So... what I meant to say was... "Awwww!! Poor Clark!! I can tell he's hurting!!
