We - and Clark - keep focusing on Lana's betrayal. However, we know that this general version of alt-Clark (ones that end up with a Lana who is herself a snake) have a number of self-doubt issues. We need to keep in mind that this is not a normal person who was betrayed. This is an emotionally damaged person with low-self-esteem issues who was betrayed by what he viewed as the only person that cared about him.
Clark's struggles are not just because of Lana's betrayal, they are really the result of all that came before that.

Even though Lois is technically married to Matymbou, she hasn't been acting like a married woman with Clark. He's going to pick up on that and be reminded of Lana's betrayal,

WOW!!! I didn't even think of that.
Virginia, that is absolutely brilliant. Having Lois - a married woman - touch him in the way she did here, could trigger exactly that response.
If it did I think he'd be out of there immediately and looking for a way to die in the jungle.
