That's a scary thought and it would meet with heavy resistance, especially from those of us who like Clark Kent more than Superman. Then again, how often does Bruce Wayne appear in Batman comics anymore? Giving up their real lives would mean giving up their grip on reality (isn't that what they discovered in JL / JLU - the animated series? That if they separate themselves too much from living among those they want to help, the help they give may not really be the help that is truly needed.)
Mouse, sorry about ambushing your FDK thread. But this is an interesting topic. They did have Clark give up his "Clark" identity at one point in the early part of the reboot. In it Action Comics Morrison had "Clark" get killed in a bomb blast at the Daily Star (Lois and Jimmy work at the rival Daily Planet) in Action #10. During the time-frame that Clark is "dead" he works as a firefighter names Johnny Clark (which is little more than a way for him to be Superman pretty much full-time). During that time he realizes the difference between Clark being a "disguise" and Clark being a "person" (Johnny interacts with people on a superficial level and has few if any friends, while Clark has Jimmy, Lois, Lana and Mrs. Nyxly...whom I'll get to in a moment.) Eventually Superman/Clark/Johnny tells his landlady Mrs. Nyxly (she's the widow of Myxzptlk and a princess from the 5th dimension) and she grants him a wish so that it never occurred in the first place. After this I doubt Clark'd be very pleased about the idea of fully giving up that identity (btw, that happened about 5 1/2 years before he and WW got involved with each other). There has been a move to make is much more difficult for him to be Clark, what with him quitting the Daily Planet (because it's owned by a conglomerate and seemingly not up to snuff), starting up an online news site with Cat Grant (where he does little reporting on his own). It was that news site that broke the news Superman and Wonder Woman being together (so recently that I don't know what will happen next on that). And this is while Diana is telling him (in so many words) "give up being Clark for me."
CLARK: No. I'm just worried I'm a jinx. JONATHAN: A jinx? CLARK: Yeah. Let's face it, ever since she's known me, Lois's been kidnapped, frozen, pushed off buildings, almost stabbed, poisoned, buried alive and who knows what else, and it's all because of me. -"Contact" (You're not her jinx, you're her blessing.)
