Okay, readers, now it’s your chance to pitch us your favorite stories! What did you read this year that blew your socks off? Tell us the stories that made you laugh and made you cry. Was there a kiss that melted your heart? A revelation that shocked you? A story that kept you up all night reading or had you refreshing the boards frantically hoping for a new chapter? A story you’ve read over and over again already?

This discussion thread is the place to chime in with your recommendations or second someone else’s. Feel free to reply to comments in this thread and post as much as you want. We want to hear everything you loved this year!

Note: Please keep recommendations free of any major spoilers! We want to encourage those who haven’t read these stories yet to read them, not spoil the big moments for them!

I’ll get things rolling with something that made me laugh!!

So, when I was looking through the eligibles list, trying to think of which stories gave me which feelings, I realize there are a quite a few that I just love because they FIXED IT… stories that aim to fix or explain something in canon that just irked me? Gahh! They’re so satisfying! So here are a few of them that really hit the spot!


Ever wonder why Clark just seems more or less okay after escaping the cage? Just weak? And whatever happened to the cage anyway?? Well, Toomi fixes it for us in a well-written and believable way! Worth the read! (Plus, her Henderson here is pretty awesome!)

AHHH! Bakasi’s “Inside Out” fics… I just LOVE these because they at least explain WHY things went the way they went in canon! These both explain what’s going on with Lois (Fury’s Mind) and Clark (Deranged Mind) during that LUNKHEADED move to propose to her without telling her his secret first!

Every time I watch the “this isn’t dancing” dancing on air scene… I get SO MAD at Clark for continuing to shoot himself in the foot so late in the game by encouraging her as Superman. And in this episode?? THE FADE TO BLACK?? He sucks the window closed with his super breath! What are we supposed to read from that?? Huh?? Man, this scene pisses me off! Okay, well, SuperBek to the rescue on this one. SO satisfying!

The reason I enjoyed this is AU's with AltClark have been done before, but not like this. Suddenly instead of one AltClark there are two.

Throw in a threat against the President of the United States and it's just a typical day for Lois and Clark.

Enjoyed very much with the story being all about Lois and the men in her life.

I read a lot of long ones this year and those are what stuck to me. The short fics were great, but it's those long ones that I read for a few days and remember.

I can't remember a fic that sucked me in as Annie M's and Kathy B's What the Heart Wants Part 1 and Part 2

They were so amazing and full of sweet reader's torture. Every day I'd sit down to devour another part and just couldn't get enough.

I totally agree, bakasi. I loved this one too. It's these long ones that pull me in and keep me reading.

I agree with bakasi and CarrieRene. I love them too. I’ve read both parts so many times that I’ve lost count. I can’t wait for the third story!

I was just going to pop in with a list of “short ones that made me laugh” and then I kept wanting to add more short ones to the list for other reasons. And now, since there are many more on my list, I’m just going to group them and give you a one-liner why you should read the whole group of them.

Super Bek - Anchor: Part 1 - Clark Kent
I am NOT an alt-Universe fan usually, but this version of the characters was just too unique and this story too different to pass up. It's heartbreaking and sad and uplifting and beautiful!

Super Bek - Whisper of Hope
This is just SUCH a well written story! I re-read it a few times.

Another Alt-Universe story that I actually enjoy. A 'what if Clark never came to Metropolis but they still met' plotline. Very sweet and waffy.

"The Canadian one" LOL. I am biased as I helped to supply many of the Canadianisms. But this is is such a sweet story and features one of my favourite 'first dates' ever.

I don't know if this is allowed because I wrote two of the chapters (I think) but this story is SO SO SO good. It's so emotional and beautiful and quite possibly the best NK based story I have ever read.

-The angst! This is such a perfectly angsty story! I absolutely LOVED this one. So gorgeous.
