One chapter to go. There will be a resolution, of sorts, but most of the big questions will be answered in the sequel.

Thanks to everyone who has read, and particularly those who have been so generous with feedback.

Thanks for getting my weekend off to a good start with another terrific chapter! I’m sad there’s only one chapter left but I’m happy there will be a sequel which answers the big questions.

It’s going to be interesting to see if Lois eventually becomes a farm girl or if Clark becomes an ex farm boy. For the later to happen, he would need to ensure that the farm and Martha are taken care of. Maybe Jack? I can’t think of the character’s name, but the man from the Smallville Press who’s trying to get Clark to work for him, I wonder if the Smallville Press somehow plays a part in the resolution. I’ll just have to be patient and see how everything plays out.

Thanks for a great story! I can’t wait for more!

I liked Clark's inner monologue here, how he struggles with not using his powers when he knows it would make such a huge difference. I wonder what would have to happen for him to work up the courage to tell her

Hooray for another chapter! I love the feeling you’re building up of a storm coming: Jack is finally here pushing Lois to make decisions, Clark is struggling with what he knows he can do but maybe shouldn’t (or should), Martha is reckoning with the future, rain is coming…

I can’t wait for the next chapter! And I’m so glad there will be a sequel. I’ve been loving your writing.

Oh good, a sequel! I was wondering how you were going to wrap things up in one more chapter. Now we have more to look forward too.

Love all the little moments between Lois and Clark. They need to just admit how they feel about each other. Their worries about living in seperate places are understandable but sometimes I just want to shake them and tell them to talk it out and find a way to make it work.

Looking forward to seeing more of Jack. Hppe they get all the hay in

An upcoming sequel? Terrific! There's still so much more to unpack in this story. The mere fact that Jack is her half-brother needs more than one part to get all that finished.

With Jack's help they might get more hay in, but it will be a stretch. In the North Country where my husband grew up that is a huge part of the economy up there. If it rains early that is a major problem.

Martha is right, if Clark uses his powers to completely bring the hay in it will be noticed. Chit chat about the neighbors is a huge part of such small communities. Still, he could have brought in another fifty bales under the cover of night...

Next part will be up soon?

Sorry for the late commenting - have been on vacation and now have quite a backlog of fic stuff to go through.

Seems like Clakr is getting more and more frustrated with Martha's fear-driven attitude reg. the use of his powers. Lois may or may not have had an influence there. I sense this conflicts is close to reach its boiling point sooner or later.
Well, at least Lois got brownie points with Martha for "helping" Clark to solve the Lana situation, so there's that. But wow, this version of MArtha has...fear issues. A lot of them. A lot more than canon Martha seems to have. I wonder if there's more to it than "just" Jonathan's death, like something that happened in the past of this world that serves as a reason for that super-paranoia.
Ultimately, they're all saved from the Hay Issue...by someone mos tunexpected: Jack is back.
Aaand, ding, turns out he is indeed Lois' half-brother. Well that should be..interesting going forward. How will Lois deal with that? WE'll find out soon enough I assume.
There's also more LC fluff, and we have the both of them in the hay together...ah, just talking...for now that is. LOL
I'm seriously a bit irritated how you are going to get this story to an end in just one more chapter. There are so many threads that still have to get resolved...well I assume I have to trust you there? Ah well then.
Looking forward for the grand finale!

"but most of the big questions will be answered in the sequel."
Yaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!! SO here for THIS!

Quote
“Nearly six hundred in the barn.”
That wasn’t enough.
Oh no!!!

Quote
Clark shook his head. “Not unless…”
“You know you can’t, Clark. It’s too risky. We could lose everything.”
“Mom…”
I'm so sad about this attitude for Martha. This was always Jonathan's stance, not hers. But with the farm resting on Clark's shoulders now, and the grief for her husband, this totally tracks. It just makes me so sad.

Quote
For Clark.
For her.
And for Jonathan’s farm.
The way you phrased this is SO SAD.

Quote
Clark had always wanted to marry.
This, somehow, is the saddest thing yet.

Quote
With that, she walked up the stairs and into the room she had shared with Jonathan for over thirty years.
This is just emotionally brutal.
Quote
“I have an appointment in the barn.”
“Lois!” he said, ignoring the anticipation soaring through his heart.
Yay! This choice makes so much sense for her. I know this pair is always a good match, but I feel like it's even clearer why She's such a good match for Him in this story.

Quote
He added a little bit of extra heat to hurry along the process.
I love that we immediately see him using his powers for Lois, after he and Martha just had a disagreement about it.

Quote
His shoulders weren’t aching, but his heart was.
love

Quote
“I don’t think ‘wise’ fits anywhere into this mess,” Lois said.
lol. Funny! And that really sounds like her.

Quote
Clark went outside to the porch. He could smell the hay waiting in the fields. He could easily go and bale it now. He didn’t need the baler. He could do it quickly and silently.
Just goooooo! Ugh, I feel his frustration here! Nice work capturing that!

Quote
Jack would be here tomorrow.
How would that affect Lois?
Love that his first thought here is about her.

Quote
Farm Boy.
It got him every time she called him that.
love

Quote
Lois’s heart thumped through a couple of beats.
It was Lucy’s face – masculinised – looking back at her.
Oh, whoa! This is crazy! Such a big swing - to change the composition of the Lane family. I'm really interested in where this goes. And the structure/writing here absolutely made me stop in my tracks - so well done!

Quote
Clark rose. “Good morning, Lois,” he said. “This is Jack. Jack, this is Lois.”
I am totally fascinated that he didn't give Jack her last name.

This whole next section is SO tense. I don't know which part to even quote, but the whole section is great.

Quote
Clark stopped the truck at the start of the first row and looked at Lois. “What’s wrong?” he asked.
I can only imagine he heard her heart rate go off the scale when she saw Jack.

Quote
“What can I do?”
“Get the hay in the barn.”
I really love this version of her matched to this version of him.

Hi Corrina!
Quote
Clark shook his head. “Not unless…”

“You know you can’t, Clark. It’s too risky. We could lose everything.”
He could tell Lois that they managed much more than she thought?

Quote
How will you explain to Lois if hay suddenly appears in the barn?”
“See? You did all that. You were right. I was wrong.”

Quote
Guilt that he had allowed her to do the heavy work that he could have done in the blink of an eye.
He might want to refrain from explaining that to Lois.

Quote
Martha had always worried how another woman in the family would affect… everything.

Would Clark insist on telling her his secret?
Martha!

Quote
Would she support Martha in guarding every potential action that could cause someone to suspect Clark was more than he appeared?
/Eyes tv show Lana/
You know, I wonder if Martha was that way before she lost her husband. Seems like transference of Jonathan’s fears compounded with her own loss.

Quote
“Clark might have found his girl, Jonathan,” she muttered. “She’s perfect for him. But I’m terrified about what it might mean.”
Awwwww

Quote
“I want to. I wouldn’t sleep yet anyway. I’ve only just eaten. I need to wind down.”
Aaaahhhh… first winding up in the barn and then letting the afterglow lull her to sleep clap

Quote
“I wouldn’t sleep either,” he said quickly.
Nope, he would be making more hay.

Quote
“Turn around.”

“Excuse me?”

“Turn around.” She made a circular motion with her hand.
Are you sure you want to massage his rock-hard muscles?

Quote
Clark turned to face the wall of the loft. He heard Lois shuffle, and then her hands landed on his shoulders, and she started to massage him.
Apparently, she is.

Quote
Lois’s hands lifted from him, and she sprang up from the bale. “She mentioned your dad?” she said, her eyes glistening with excitement. “That’s wonderful.”

He stared at her, feeling a little bit intoxicated by the genuine joy and excitement in her face. “You have worked wonders,” he said.
Awwwww, Lois recognizing what he’s thinking clap

Quote
Lois stopped massaging him and hung her hands over his shoulders, resting on her elbows. “Both of my parents called Lucy in the past week. They just wanted to throw dirt at the other. Neither mentioned me.”
Sounds perfectly lovely.

Quote
“I don’t think ‘wise’ fits anywhere into this mess,” Lois said.
Now, is this a find-the-word game where you look for words that match the theme and use ‘wise’ as part of the word’s spelling?

Quote
Women like Lois Lane weren’t interested in men like Clark Kent.
City women?
Human women?
CLARK: yes.
Quote
And that was without the whole abnormal, alien aspect.
laugh
Also, ‘abnormal’, not just ‘alien’. Poor dear!

Quote
Clark could feel his tension creep over him again. “What did she want?”

Lois chuckled a little. “Our date worked.”
Adorable bit (somehow).

Quote
And he wouldn’t have an explanation for Lois tomorrow morning.
Maybe if he weaved some into a crop circle, he could point out that it must have been aliens?

Quote
Maybe she would offer again tomorrow. Maybe she would let him massage her shoulders again.
angel-devil

Quote
“Clark, it’s Jack. There’s rain coming.”
jawdrop

Quote
Leaving the door open, he walked a few steps closer to the bed.
Awwwww

Quote
“That’s wonderful, Clark. He’ll be able to help with the hay.”
Now I wonder, will Clark do some hay at superspeed and pretend to Lois that it was Jack’s help?

Quote
“Yes, I do,” she said. “We have hay to bring in.”
Look who’s a big farm girl now!

Quote
And that cast a dark cloud over everything.
It’s what he gets for not “making hay” earlier.

Quote
It was Lucy’s face – masculinised – looking back at her.
Could be a coincidence. It does not mean he’s a frog-based experiment of her father’s.

Quote
Their family of four – fractured and dysfunctional – had a fifth member who was silent, unseen and unknown.

What did Jack know?
You know, I just realized – one of the lexlings was also Australian. And while this one is so by author’s happenstance, one does have to wonder. (Not really wink )

Quote
Lois smiled. “I’ll be OK, Martha. Clark won’t let me do too much.”
Nope.

Quote
“Of course, I’m going to do this. We can deal with everything else once the hay is in the barn.”
It’s called compartmentalization and is how she can be tied up and get the story at the same time.

Quote
He squeezed her hand and got out of the truck. Lois switched to the driver’s side, and they began.
You, it’s good that part 16 is already out clap
