Ahhhh!! I’m riveted.
Oh wow, they move fast. This suggests that Lois didn’t have much time or access to information beforehand? I can’t imagine what this must be like for Lois, I mean these are some heavy noncon themes here because all of this is effectively coerced.

Coerced by the very peoples who attacked earth and killed countless humans. From her perspective anyway- I’d have a hard time finding much admiration even for those who claim to have been against that. Oh good, the house of El voted “nay” at the speciocide-or-at-least-total-subjugation-for-the-humans council meeting? Did they send a strongly worded letter of dissent? Well whoop de doo, what heroes, and now she has to submit completely to their idea of arranged marriage and submit in the ‘bridal chamber’, too? Basically under threat of more violence, because their forces are stuck in a volatile stalemate until then, because these bastards won’t even recall their troops fully until their prince gets some action? From Lois’ perspective, it seems it’d be real hard to keep the house of El apart from what the rest of kryptonians did, and not see this as just a milder form of subjugation. After all they didn’t even attempt to merge with human wedding traditions.

I loved the little moments of them glancing at each other, his little moment of maybe nervousness, and then seeming to force himself into proper form. Also, how does Kal know about tuxes? Has he studied earth, or been already? …Has he studied English?

After all, he is not the Clark we know, he’s sort of not Clark at all, he’s had totally different experiences. lol I’m so worried for Lois! What is this Kal going to be like? Is he going to address the messed up dynamic here? Is he just fine and dandy with consummating like this, I mean it’s not freely given consent. To be fair to Kal, his people also could suffer losses and he is not the one who designed this system, he didn’t want this either. And yet, he still has more power in this situation, both physically and because he is who she must ‘submit’ to, per tradition at least. Do they even have to? Who would know? Where are they going to live? Lois seems to think she’s going to New Krypton, but- really?

I could go on, my brain is running wild 😅 I am fascinated with where this’ll go. Where’s the nag emoji? 🙏🙏

I'm curious how you will handle this. There have been stories about arranged marriages between Lois and Kal before, though usually Lois was the party that didn't have much choice and all that was at stake was tradition. Things are a little different here, they're both much in the same position. And Lois is younger, so maybe she hasn't had so many bad experiences beforehand.

Ah, so many questions. I'm afraid I can't answer much without giving spoilers but I will answer 1. Yes, they will be going to New Krypton. It's briefly mentioned in the prologue that all Kryptonians have to leave Earth except for a small embassy (basically just an ambassador and a few aids). This means Kal has to leave as well and his wife must go with him.

It's all very unfair for Lois. She hates it but she's also willing to sacrifice her happiness for the sake of all the people of Earth - at least for now. Living on New Krypton is going to be quite the trial for her. Honestly, the people of Earth ought to regard her as a heroine but people are fickle and once the threat is gone well...

I will say this - Kal is not going to be the bad guy here. I hope that came across in this chapter. Circumstances may be different but he's still the guy we all know and love.

oh I wasn't expecting answers- but also, phew! At least she'll have someone on her side for all of that. She's so young here, she surely hasn't got to fully hit her mad dog lane stride and now this!

Also, I do have a thing for the trope where one character could take advantage (in various ways) of another character but doesn't and makes that clear.

can't wait for next week, I'm counting the days :>

Oh, I'm very interested where this story is going. Both being forced into marriage without knowing anything about the other and not even speaking the same language. It will be a challenge. At least Lois liked what she saw. wink I believe the last part won't be so unpleasant as she had imagined it would be. whistle

Looking forward to more! smile1

They both accepted the marriage for peace but it’s still forced. It’s going to be interesting to see how this all plays out. I’m a sap and I hope that they both ultimately find love and happiness together though that probably doesn’t even feel like a real possibility to either of you them. Thanks for a terrific chapter! I’m hooked and love this story!

Kal turned to see his brother Ching, dressed in his own fine robes accented in the traditional blue of the House of El.
What a cool twist! Love seeing Ching's character this way!

And a tux does not look funny – it is sharp, stylish.
It's really nice the way you're threading in his appreciate for earth.

Well, with that sour look on your face, I cannot speak highly of your looks at the moment.
lol This really gives us a great sense of how good of friends they are!

You have known Zara since you were children.
Yay! So glad they got a happy ending!!

I had intended to finish my education and begin working before I even thought about seeking a bride. But now…
Love this parallel between he and Lois.

He made it clear that this was my choice. I could refuse. But I know the consequences if I do.
It's actually really nice that both dads were rational and empathetic about this. It feels like it gives the story a lot more hope!

To begin with, she hadn’t planned on getting married at all until she finished her degree and got her dream job at the Daily Planet, won a few Kerth awards, maybe even a Pulitzer.
Also really fun to see how much more ambitious she is than Kal. Very in character!

...this so-called ‘Marriage of State’ they were pushing for.
Heeeeeeyyyyyyyy!!

Quote
There was no way she could memorize all of these rules in time.
Ughhhh - this hits my anxiety level so hard!

Quote
She would have to leave her family and her home to journey to a distant, desolate planet with a husband she knew nothing about.
She really is brave.

Quote
She may have only just started Tae-kwon-do but she’d picked up a few tricks
Fun to see this in this context!

“Am I supposed to go in?” she asked. The other woman’s face was impassive. She did not respond. “Yes? No? Maybe?” Lois prompted further to no avail. “Okay… I’m gonna go in now. Alright?” She slowly reached for the panel which would open the automated pocket-door. When no one stopped her, she completed the action.
This is HILARIOUS! rotflol

She took a breath to steady herself, determined that she would not show weakness, and looked back at her husband-to-be only to find him staring at his feet.
This introduction is really just so rich and enjoyable because WE know what they're like (generally) but they really don't. Clark staring at his shoes just got me, lol.

What followed was basically meaningless to Lois. A lot of words were said – none of which she understood.
Such a great and hilarious detail.

Looking forward to reading the next part!
