Nothing better than settling down with a good mind story before sleep.
I've written dozens of Stargate fanfic that way. And, yes, never had the inclination to write them down or post them. I'd have to rein them in then and make the plots work and do all the hard work.
Whereas, in my head, if I hit something which doesn't work I just rewind and change it.
